The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a shared universe created by Marvel Studios featuring its independently made films. However, it is not restricted to just films. Starting in 2011, short films called Marvel One-Shots started being released along with select blu-rays. In 2013, Marvel Television released Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which started seven years of television shows connecting to the MCU with 12 series and 29 seasons released on many platforms. In 2020, Marvel Television dissolved back into Marvel Studios, allowing them to kickstart even more shows exclusively released on Disney+. Along with series and films, there are also many tie-in comics, video games, web series, and special presentations taking place connected to Earth-199999, or known in-universe as Earth-616.
