Wishing Compass not pointing towards Khazad-Dum

My wishing compass is not pointing towards Khazad-dum (Bal) despite me being in the magma fields when using it. Usually it just points towards a random place like Nucleus or the Precursor city. Is this a bug or am I doing it wrong?
