Cars is a CGI animated film series and Disney media franchise that began with the 2006 film, Cars, produced by Pixar and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was followed by a sequel in 2011, two spin-off films, Planes and Planes: Fire and Rescue, produced by DisneyToon Studios in 2013 and 2014, and another sequel in 2017. It also has two tv series, one called Cars Toons that ran three seasons and another one titled Cars on the Road that is a Disney+ show. The first two films were directed by John Lasseter, the CEO of Pixar Animation Studios. Cars is considered to be Pixar's "anniversary" franchise as the first two films marked Pixar's 20th and 25th anniversaries respectively. Together, the three films have accrued over $1 billion in box office revenue worldwide.
