Belgrade GP 5: Rapport & Giri on verge of semis
Richard Rapport gambled and won in Round 5 of the Belgrade FIDE Grand Prix as he defeated Vidit to take a one-point lead in Pool C going into the final round. Vladimir Fedoseev was knocked out of contention by Alexei Shirov, whose fine attacking win was the day's only other decisive game. The draws meant that Anish Giri is also only a draw away from guaranteeing a semi-final place, while Maxime Vachier-Lagrave continues to lead in Pool D. Dmitry Andreikin, Sam Shankland and Etienne Bacrot are all still in the hunt in Pool A.
