The Netflix Festival Japan 2021 event announced a two-part spin-off anime movie for Nakaba Suzuki's Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins) manga on Tuesday. The event also revealed the main staff and a teaser trailer. The two-part movie, subtitled Ensa no Edinburgh (Grudge of Edinburgh), will feature an original story written by Suzuki, centering Meliodas's son, Tristan. The first part will premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix in 2022. Kodansha published the 41th and final volume last May. Nanatsu no Taizai has a cumulative 37 million copies of its compiled volumes in print. A-1 Pictures adapted manga into a 24-episode television anime in Fall 2014, followed by the four-episode Seisen no Shirushi (Signs of Holy War) television special in Summer 2016. The second season, Imashime no Fukkatsu (Revival of the Commandments), aired in Winter 2018. The Tenkuu no Torawarebito (Prisoners of the Sky) anime movie premiered in Japan in August 2018. Studio Deen produced the third season, Kamigami no Gekirin (Wrath of the Gods), in Fall 2019. The fourth season, Funnu no Shinpan, premiered in 24 episodes in Winter 2021. The second and latest movie in the franchise, Hikari ni Norowareshi Mono-tachi, opened in Japan on July 2 (pictured right). Suzuki launched the Mokushiroku no Yonkishi (Four Knights of the Apocalypse) sequel manga in Weekly Shounen Magazine in on January 27, approximately ten months after concluding the main series. Kodansha published the third volume on September 17, with the fourth volume scheduled for release on November 17. Kodansha US is simulpublising the manga with the Japanese release.
