Like a bolt form the blue its time 4 another threadview!! So 4 2days thread, lets talk about anime or manga, that you think really showcases the y2k aesthetic quite well. Now for those who may not be familiar with what the y2k aesthetic is, here’s what its about. Y2K (also known as Kaybug) is an aesthetic that was prevalent in popular culture from roughly 1995 to 2004. Named after the Y2K Bug, it is characterized by a distinct aesthetic period, encapsulating fashion, hardware design, music, and furnishings shining with tech optimism— sometimes literally. (Source Aesthetic Wikia) So for here’s the example I am going to go with for todays thread. Gals Now being the huge The World Ends With You fan that I am. with it having a Shibuya setting and of course stuff relating to the culture I had to check it out. The show is a cop show but with high school girls and its pretty hilarious as well and you won’t be seeing a gyaru which is basically someone who is well known for their huge fashion sense and not confirming to Japanese cultural norms and just lives their best life as a cop lol. Don't wanna be a cop? Well tough fucking shit for Ran Kotobuki the shows mc as her family comes from a long line of them and shes as dumb as a pile of fucking rocks but makes up for her strong sense of right and wrong. And lol tan Is a thing in the series as well too i forgot what its called but lol tan is a thing and I hope you guys like tanned characters as you’ll be seeing that quite a bit. Btw if you’re dumbfounded on what the fuck is gal terminology, don’t ask me about gen-z or millennial terminology, I make up my own wordplay like big fucking yikes or big fucking yay lmao. Minigal Tan and Minigal White are here to save the day and lol neither are going to age like wine knowing today lmao. Overall very entertaining show imo and lol we can certainly use more cop themed shojo as well. As Life had a sequel that was cop themed and Zodiac P.I is also a nice mystery read as well too that I really liked. So yeah that aside, do you have a favorite anime or manga that really showcases that y2k aesthetic let me know and Enjoy the thread!!
